Jesse + Ashley

Good morning, Alberta!

Ever since I was a teenager, I dreamed of photographing weddings all over the world. To travel and photograph couples in love—what more could I want? When Ashley told me that he and Jesse were planning on getting married, I was over the moon. Not because they live in Alberta, but because I’ve known Ashley since we were teenagers; she was one of my models when I was first dabbling in photography in high school. When Ashley asked if I would photograph her and Jesse’s wedding in September, how could I say no? There’s something extra special about capturing a childhood friend's wedding.

It ended up working out that my honeymoon with my husband was around the same time as the wedding and that we were driving out to Tofino right past Alberta. On our way out to Tofino, BC, we met with Jesse and Ashley in Kananaskis County for their engagement session. Jesse and Ashley love to go on hikes and explore nature so it made sense to meet half way up a mountain. We planned for a sunrise session, but the mountains had other plans. If you know me, then you know, I'm a huge fan of fog.

Okay, I need to address this moment for a second. As we were walking to our next spot, Jesse suddenly and unprompted, I may add, reached down and picked a flower for Ashley. The smile on her face says it all. I have to say, there’s nothing like being able to witness and capture couples creating their own magic. Bringing romance to your engagement session is as easy as being yourself and surprising your partner with unprompted actions.

Grateful doesn’t begin to describe how I feel when a couple trusts me enough to bring me out of Ontario to capture their wedding day. Alberta and British Columbia have always been my favourite places to be, and one day my husband and I may move out there, but until then, I’ll just be waiting for a reason to go back… anyone want to give me a reason?
